Just like our Junior Kindergarten I Division, our Junior Kindergarten II Division is a full day group daycare program for 3 – 5 year old children. The program opened as a preschool in 2011 and transitioned to full time care due to the heavy demand for our JK I program in 2013. Since the creation of the new JK class, we refer to the two programs as JK I and JK II (or Division I and Division II).
The JK II Classroom is very unique with a very airy, open environment, and very tall, vaulted ceilings. The large two story windows let in an abundance of natural light and ensure that the classroom always feels warm and bright on a nice day. The building has been a part of the Marpole community for many decades and lends itself very well to our natural philosophy with its nostalgic character. We are also lucky to have a wonderful outside area, as well as the benefit of access to both the nearby parks (Ebisu Park and Marpole park), and to the JK I playground for variety and neighborhood walks!
Division II was originally created to supplement Division I's full day program by offering 'preschool' hours with separate classes in the mornings and afternoons. We eventually found that families really valued and often needed the full day care provided at Division I. Eventually, Division II was transitioned into a full day program, and is now an extension of Division one, using the same curriculum, philosophy, and hours of the original program.
Drawing on elements from Maria Montessori and Reggio Emilia practices, we practice emergent curriculums at both centres, and develop activities based on the children's interests. Read more about this on our Philosophy page. Some of our preschool activities can be seen and read about on our Curriculum Page.
